Each paragraph must contain 5 or more sentences.  Please read the rubric. Do not cite the Internet, only cite from the textbook. You must cite the text at least 3 times for your entire post in MLA style (see Announcements). Respond to 2 or more classmates with 3 or more sentences. Failure to follow these instructions will result in deduction of points. Remember that you will obtain a failing score for the entire DB post if you first submit a blank post first, for I consider it cheating. Along the lines of cheating, submitting a partial DB post first and an additional one to complete the DB will also result in only the first (partial) post being graded. In other words, keep all answers on one post.

Chapters 5-6

In 1-2 full pages explain the following: What forces led to the end of de jure segregation? To what extent was this change a result of broad social forces (e.g., industrialization), and to what extent was it the result of the actions of African Americans acting against the system (e.g., the southern civil rights movement)? By the 1960s and 1970s, how had the movement for racial change succeeded, and what issues were left unresolved? What issues remain unresolved today?

In 1-2 full pages explain the following: What were the most important cultural differences between American Indian tribes and the dominant society? How did these affect relations between the two groups? How did federal Indian policy change over the course of the 20th century? What effects did these changes have on the tribes? Which were more beneficial? Why? What was the role of the Indian protest movement in shaping these policies?

This final paper will be the culmination of what we have accomplished during our course. Now that we have identified and clarified the nature of social problems, and examined two key organizations that address a social problem, we will give a more in depth discussion about the scope of a social problem, a major theoretical idea that can be applied to the social problem, and our own analysis of how this social problem might be better solved. A crucial part of this assignment will be in identifying one of the major theoretical perspectives we have covered this session. The major ones include the functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interaction approaches. However, as our materials note, there are other theoretical viewpoints we may also adopt if we choose. The key will be in thoroughly understanding these theoretical viewpoints, and finding the most effective one for understanding our chosen social problem of study.

Instructions:

Complete a 6-8 page final paper (NOT including title or reference pages) that analyzes the future impact of a social problem of your choice – note: you must use a DIFFERENT social problem from the one you used in your first assignment. In this assignment, you will cover:

1.  The scope of this social problem over the last 30-50 years. For example, what happened in the 80s, 90s, 2000, 2010, and 2020 (Note: you will need to use historical data to articulate the scope of this problem.)

2.  Your own original analysis of how you think addressing the social problem could be improved. In this analysis, please mention what you think should be done to solve this social problem. Use your own viewpoint and voice, as a sociologist, rather than relying heavily on sources for this section.

3.    Define four concepts from our readings/materials that relate to your chosen social problem and analyze how these concepts help us better understand the social problem you are discussing. Concepts include ideas such as stratification, ethnicity, sexism, and others as mentioned in our readings and materials (NOTE: these are just examples of concepts – they may NOT apply to your topic – you need to select concepts that apply to your own topic).

4.    Define one sociological theory from our readings/materials that relates to your chosen social problem and analyze how this theory helps us better understand the social problem you are discussing. Sociological theories include functionalism, conflict theory, feminist theory, symbolic interactionism, and others as mentioned in our readings and materials.

Do not use unverifiable, secondary sites such as Wikipedia, about.com, ask.com, and similar. Use our course materials, peer-reviewed journal articles from the library, and other scholarly sources. Sources should be no more than five years old.

Your paper should utilize sound critical thought and it should include appropriate APA in-text citations and full APA references at the end.

 This means you are to include a cover page, running header, major heading and subheadings within the paper to identify each section. 

  • The submission should be double-spaced, fonts no more than 12 points (including the cover page), in-text citations and a reference list. Please note, the cover and reference page DO NOT count toward the page or slide requirements. 

The structure of the paper must include the following, with subheadings:

This term I may make a business plan for a chocolate company. The name of this company is Tony’s Chocolonely. I once bought the products of this company in the supermarket. The packaging of this product has attracted me with its slogan. Currently, Tony’s Chocolonely has a zero-advertising budget policy that limits brand awareness. In order to increase brand awareness and increase shareholders’ wealth, I propose that Tony’s Chocolonely opens up a business to business to consumer channel. I am proposing that Tony’s Chocolonely use the combined horizontal and vertical simultaneity, when the B2B and B2C points occur conjointly, leading with the brand initially targeting only one type of customer market then extending its business also to the other type of customers. In other words, by incorporating your product into other corporations’ already distinguished products Tony’s Chocolonely can increase its brand awareness.
