creating poster

Assignment Prompt

Resource: Poster Template Example

Resource: Scientific Poster Design (Cornell U)

Resource: How to create an effect Poster Presentation (O. Sherman)

The purpose of this assignment is to create a poster that will present the visual and graphic presentation of the capstone project. Poster presentation should clearly articulate what you did, how you did it, why you did it, and what it contributes to your field and the larger field of human knowledge. This assignment is due in week seven and must be presented by the student.

Create your poster per guidance and approval from your capstone course faculty (template provided above). Follow the poster template as outlined and review the recommended resources in creating your poster.

What goals should you keep in mind to construct a poster?

  • Clarity of content. Decide on a small number of key points that you want your viewers to take away from your presentation, and articulate those ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Visual interest and accessibility. The viewers should notice and take interest in your poster so that they will pause to learn more about your project, and you will need the poster’s design to present your research in a way that is easy for those viewers to make easy sense of it.

From the capstone project, students will create an effective poster with the following information:

Title: Project Title

Authors: Your name, faculty advisor’s name

Background/Significance

Purpose or Aims of the Study

Methods/Design

Expected Results/Outcomes

Business Law

Business Law: Ethics, Law, and the Judicial System

Deliverable Length: 600 words APA Style

Corporations have a lot of influence over the economy, the community, and people. The traditional view of corporate responsibility is that a corporation has no additional social responsibility beyond making a profit for its shareholders. In more recent years, arguments have arisen with the belief that corporations have a high degree of social responsibility to people affected by the corporation’s decisions.

You are returning for a second interview for a management position at a pharmaceutical corporation. The hiring committee wants to hear your views on a corporation’s social responsibility. The hiring committee has even provided to you a case example to review and discuss during your interview. To prepare for the interview, you decide to write out your thoughts that you plan on discussing with the hiring team.

In your paper, you decide to include the following topics:

  • Definition of what corporate social responsibility means to you
  • Arguments supporting social responsibility
  • Description of a real-life example of a specific corporation acting in a socially responsible manner
  • Your opinion and supportive reasoning on the case example and questions provided below

Case Example: Phishy Pharmaceuticals is a corporation that recently kicked off the sale of its new weight-loss pill, Lose It Fast. After three months of sales, the management team has received some troubling reports of some unanticipated side effects caused by the pill. The management team asks the accounting department to run some numbers to determine how much it would cost to recall Lose It Fast, to suspend manufacturing, and to conduct more tests to determine the pill’s safety and other possible side effects.

After running some numbers, the accounting department states that it would be more cost-effective to leave the product on the market shelves and propose settlement proceedings with anyone who is injured and initiates a lawsuit.

The corporate attorney has advised that the product states on the package that the pill is not FDA approved, and off-the-record has stated that everyone who buys a weight-loss product knows there are some risks involved, so it is likely that the majority of injured consumers will not initiate a lawsuit.

If you recall the product, it will result in a delay of dividends paid to shareholders and a loss in revenue, affecting shareholder profit. Consider the following questions regarding this example:

  • What would you do, and why?
  • Would you leave the product on the shelves because you feel your duty as a corporate manager is to maximize shareholder profits?
  • Would you recall the product because you feel the corporation owes a duty to the public, consumers, and the government in terms of social responsibility?

MANAGERIAL finance week 2 disc 1

PLEASE ANSWER BOTH LETTERS THOROUGHLY…MUST USE PROPER PRONUNICATIONS GRAMMAR AND WRITING…ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES MUST BE SCHOLARLY ARTICLES, MUST BE IN CITED PROPERLY IN APA FORMAT AND HAVE AN REFERENCE PAGE ALSO

THIS PAPER MUST BE 400 WORD COUNT..

a)  Think of something you want or need for which you currently do not have the funds. It could be a vehicle, boat, horse, jewelry, property, vacation, college fund, retirement money, etc. Select something which costs somewhere between $2,000 and $50,000.  Use the “Present Value Formula”, which computes how much money you need to start with now to achieve the desired monetary goal. Assume you will find an investment that promises somewhere between 5% and 10% interest on your money (you choose the rate) and pretend you want to purchase your desired item in 12 years. (Remember that the higher the return, usually the riskier the investment, so think carefully before deciding on the interest rate.) How much do you need to invest today to reach that desired amount 12 years from now?

b)  You wish to leave an endowment for your heirs that goes into effect 50 years from today. You don’t want to be forgotten after you pass so you wish to leave an endowment that will pay for a grand soirée yearly and forever. What amount would you like spent yearly to fund this grand party? How much money do you have to leave to your heirs 50 years from now assuming that will compound at 6% interest? Assuming that you have not invested anything today, how much would you have to invest yearly to fully fund the annuity in 50 years, again assuming a 6% monthly compounding rate?

Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome

1. Before you begin reading, describe how you think slavery has affected Blacks.

2. Based on the symptoms of PTSD on page 119, give at least 4 examples of specific behavior a Black person in slavery may have exhibited in their daily life of a slave. (BE SPECIFIC and do not just say one-word responses like, SAD! For example, a Black mother may…when her child is…)

3. Look at the last sentence on page 119, which begins with, “The maintenance of healthy and secure relationships…” Leary and others argue that one of the highest values found in Black’s relationships before and during slavery was their relationship with others. How do you think Black family reunions represent this African cultural tradition? Next, describe your experience with family reunions and why you think they are less popular today (if your family engages in them less than before), or why they are still highly valued (if your family continues to practice them regularly).

4. On page 120, Leary suggests that many Blacks have internalized the superiority of Whites over themselves. She states this was achieved through centuries of “repetition and justification” that Blacks are inferior compared to Whites. Give at least 3 examples of “repetition and justification” of Black’s inferiority during slavery and 3 examples in contemporary of times how this tradition has continued.

5. On page 121, read how Leary responds to Whites who say they are tired of hearing about slavery and they did not own slaves. There are many Blacks who say similar things and believe that Blacks can be racist too. Pretend you are emailing a Black person you know who is angry about other Blacks bringing up slavery. How would you put Leary’s words into your own words to counter their point?

6. On pages 122-123, Leary discusses how slave life created potential and real life patterns of adaptation which may influence behavior today. Read these two pages carefully and share how you think this may influence things today. (topics may include Black female/male relationships, Black self-hatred, suicide, negative rap music, child abuse, “No Good Black men,” the lack of businesses, Black hair, Black spending habits, light skin versus dark skin, the Black Christians versus the Black Muslims, the lack of desire to want to learn in school versus just taking classes, the Black male penis, Black-on-Black violence, etc.) NOTE: “Sharing” does NOT mean write one or two sentences!

7. Do you see any relevance to the current Black condition (in the U.S. or abroad) in the quote by Yael Danieli on page 124? Explain

8. What three spheres of influence impact the esteem of people? Based on these three spheres, why does Leary suggests that Blacks have a vacant esteem and how does the example of Carl and Dominic reveal the power of a vacant esteem?

9. How does Leary explain how vacant esteem contributes to Blacks criticizing or “hating” on other Blacks who succeed? (Write in your own words!!)

10. How did “ever present anger” and “racist socialization” become part of Blacks collective mental disorder or Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome? Explain each of the two separately!!
