Management

Specifically, you must address the following critical elements from section II of the final project:

A. Organizational Context

1. What key goods or services does your organization provide, and for whom, where, and why? How do these features of the organization (e.g., major products or services, customers, location) help set the boundaries for business decisions?

2. How is the company organized and managed (by product groups, geographic region, function, etc.)? How does that affect accounting and financial information and subsequent business decisions?

B. Recent Financial Performance

1. Assess what the organization’s consolidated income statements for the last three years say about its financial performance. Use relevant indicators, graphs, and spreadsheets to support your narrative. (Include all spreadsheets in an appendix.) For example, what do the amounts and year-to-year changes in revenue, operating income, net profit or loss, and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization tell you? Do any items stand out?

2. Assess what the organization’s consolidated cash flow statements for the same time period say about its financial performance. Use relevant indicators, graphs, and spreadsheets to support your narrative. For example, what do the amounts and year-to-year changes in cash from operating activities, cash from investing, cash from financing, and total cash flow tell you? Do any items stand out?

3. Assess the organization’s underlying financial performance. Support your answer with the analysis above and relevant research. For example, is recent performance substantially affected by unusual events such as a major acquisition or spin-off? Is the business thriving or

struggling in its industry? How do you know?

C. Current Financial Health

1. Assess how the organization is capitalized and what that tells you about its financial health. Support your response with relevant graphs,

spreadsheets, and indicators such as cash and cash equivalents, total debt, shareholders’ equity, current ratio, debt/equity ratio, and days sales

outstanding (DSO). For example, does the organization have enough cash for payroll and other bills? Does it have the right mix of debt versus

equity (stock)? How do you know?

2. Does the organization have the right amount of cash and other resources (key people, technologies, reputation, physical assets, etc.) to fuel future growth? What does this suggest for business decisions? For example, if it has too much cash, should it pay a large dividend, repurchase its own shares, or reinvest the excess funds?

3. Assess the financial value of the company using relevant indicators. What does your assessment imply for future business health and performance? For example, what is the business’s current market value? What is its price-to-earnings ratio? What do these suggest about

investor perceptions of the business’s future?

Research: Visualization Literacy

As noted by Kirk (2016), data visualization is multidisciplinary. Several professional specializations are combined to work on a project or to resolve a problem. Kirk (2016) was inspired by Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats. A multi-talented visualizer may have some of the capabilities mentioned in the seven hats of data visualization (Kirk, 2016).

Assignment: Write a research paper that contains any 3 of the following:

  • Project Manager
  • Communicator
  • Scientist
  • Data Analyst
  • Journalist
  • Designer
  • Technology

Use the topics and statements under each “hat” from the course text to help with your search for research material.

Your research paper should be at least 3 pages (800 words), double-spaced, have at least 4 APA references, and typed in an easy-to-read font in MS Word (other word processors are fine to use but save it in MS Word format). Your cover page should contain the following: Title, Student’s name, University’s name, Course name, Course number, Professor’s name, and Date.

Menu Selection

Despite being a fairly old technology, menu-driven interfaces are very common in user interface design.  Menu-driven interfaces consist of a series of screens which are navigated by choosing options from lists.  Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

  1. Evaluate the user dialog strategies used by a menu-driven interface.
  2. Determine why menu-driven interfaces continue to be popular in the modern computing age.
  3. Suggest at least three (3) strategies for making menu-driven interfaces visually appealing in the modern computing environment.
  4. Suggest alternatives for menu-driven interface design and explain how these alternatives can be designed to eventually replace all menu-driven interfaces.
  5. Use at least three (4) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources

discussion post 7

America comes home from WWII, a power house if you will. We expand with an interstate system that lets us explore further distances than ever before.  As far as Presidents, Harry Truman stays in right after the war, General D. Eisenhower becomes president in the 1950s, then the charming JFK, Johnson becomes president due to the assassination of JFK, Nixon finally gets elected to only resign, Ford falls down the stairs, and Jimmy leaves Georgia for the White House. This is just the presidents, we have a Korean War and a Vietnam War. An entire class could be on the Civil Rights Movement of the time or the changes in culture in society. Thus, yes I know there is a lot of information, but pick a question below and try to teach others why you think the information is important.

Topics come from OpenStax Chapters 28/29/30 https://openstax.org/books/us-history/pages/28-introduction  (Links to an external site.)

You can use Exploring American Histories Chapter 24- almost through chapter 27

You can use one of my topic questions below or like Jeopardy make your own question and then answer it!!!

  1. How did some Americans turn their wartime experiences into lasting personal gains (i.e. better employment, a new home, or an education) after the war was over? Why did others miss out on these opportunities?
  2. What was the reason for the breakdown in friendly relations between the United States and the Soviet Union after World War II? What were the results of this conflict?
  3. How did fear of the Soviet Union and Communism affect American culture and society?
  4. What social changes took place in the United States after World War II? What role did the war play in those changes?
  5. How did the wartime experiences of African Americans contribute to the drive for greater civil rights after the war?
  6. Describe the changing role of the federal government in the 1960s. What new roles and responsibilities did the government assume? In your opinion, can the government effect permanent social change? Why or why not?
  7. Discuss how and why various groups of people within American society began to challenge and criticize the nation’s way of life in the 1960s. Were their criticisms valid? What were some of the goals of these groups, and how did they go about achieving them?
  8. In your opinion, what is the most effective method for changing society—voting, challenges in the courts, nonviolent civil disobedience, or violence? What evidence can you provide from actual events in the 1960s to support your argument?
  9. Were groups that advocated the use of violence in the 1960s justified in doing so? Why or why not?
  10. Discuss how the United States became engaged in the Vietnam War. What were some of the results of that engagement?
  11. What common goals did American Indians, gay and lesbian citizens, and women share in their quests for equal rights? How did their agendas differ? What were the differences and similarities in the tactics they used to achieve their aims?
  12. In what ways were the policies of Richard Nixon different from those of his Democratic predecessors John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson? How were Jimmy Carter’s policies different from those of Nixon?
  13. To what degree did foreign policy issues affect politics and the economy in the United States in the late 1960s and 1970s
  14. What events caused voters to lose faith in the political system and the nation’s leaders in the late 1960s and 1970s?
  15. In what ways did the goals of the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s manifest themselves in the identity politics of the 1970s?

Module 8 Graded Learning Activity #2

Part 1 of Module Discussion:

Ten Quotes:  To Kill a Mockingbird

While reading Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, be on the lookout for telling quotations from the novel.  Highlight/Underline these and note in the margin which of the assignment requirements each satisfies.

One approach is to, every day, type up the quotes you have found from your reading as well as your commentary on them.  When you have finished the novel, you will only need to select the BEST quotes to submit.  Be aware that your opinions on what quotes are significant and why may well change as you read and your understanding of the book deepens.

Here are some guidelines:

  • Copy your quotation absolutely accurately. Note the page number(s).
  • Be sure to completely explain your quote and the function it fills in To Kill a Mockingbird. Anyone reading your quotations and explications should not have to read the assignment sheet to figure out what you are writing about.  Think of these as mini-essays, and remember to explain your thinking thoroughly.
  • Format your paper according to class word processing guidelines.

As an example, if we were doing this project on Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, here is one way you could answer #5:

Huckleberry came and went, at his own free will. He slept on doorsteps in fine weather and in empty hogsheads in wet; he did not have to go to school or to church, or call any being master or obey anybody; he could go fishing or swimming when and where he chose, and stay as long as it suited him; nobody forbade him to fight; he could sit up as late as he pleased; he was always the first boy that went barefoot in the spring and the last to resume leather in the fall; he never had to wash, nor put on clean clothes; he could swear wonderfully.  In a word, everything that goes to make life precious, that boy had.  So thought every harassed, hampered, respectable boy in St. Petersburg. (46)

This description of a child who is without parents or a home would be sad, except that the narrator tells us that other boys envy Huck his absolute freedom.  Because the point of view is third-person omniscient, we get an objective description of Huck and learn how he appeals to his friends before we even meet him on the page.  If Huck or another boy told the story, we probably would be as biased towards Huck as his companions are.

Your quotes may be of any length, long or short.  You may begin each quote explanation with the quotation itself, as above, you may use the quote last or you may insert the quote in your explanation. The precise style of each explanation is up to you.

Assignment:

Find quotes for the information below. Remember, the exercises in this module are to prepare you for the final exam.

  1. Select a quotation from the novel that illustrates plot development and explain how the plot is expanding at that particular point.
  2. Select a quotation from To Kill a Mockingbird that depicts a social issue. Explain how and link it to a theme of the work.
  3. Select the quotation that has the most profound effect on the reader (you again) and explain why.
