In this discussion post I have decided to choose advertising.  I chose advertising because after watching the video there are a lot of things that are being kept from the public and the customers who are buying these inhumanly raised chickens.  With regards to the economic system I believe that it is more along the lines of a socialist economic type.  This is because the way in which the chickens are raised are made by the USDA and this is a government department.  In this situation the government is in total control in how they should operate and raise the chickens, and the farmers and companies must follow these guidelines.  USDA says that the chickens should be “Raised cage free, all vegetarian diet, no animal by-products, no antibiotics ever, humanely raised.”

In the two videos that were in the resources, there is one video that shows how Perdue advertised fresh farm grown chickens that are good to eat and are approved by the USDA.  They also claim that Perdue takes extra precautions to make sure that these chickens are raised and processed correctly.  After watching the video Chicken Factory Farmer Speaks Out, these chickens are not raised and processed in the way the advertisement portrays.  One problem that Perdue could run into is false advertising.  “Deceptive advertising, also known as false advertising, refers to a manufacturer’s use of confusing, misleading, or blatantly untrue statements when promoting a product. Advertising law will protect consumers from deceptive advertising through the enforcement of specific legislation.” (Laws) False advertising is against the law which means that if there is further research done by the consumers of Perdue chickens then there could possibly be a law suit on Perdue.  I believe that the way Perdue portrays their chickens being raised and the video showing the raising of their chickens is very misleading.  The chickens do not have any sunlight or room to move around to get proper exercise needed to properly live.  I believe that utilitarianism is an ethical outlook on advertising of Perdue chickens.  They are portraying themselves to take the best moral position for the chickens and the customers, but in reality they are only looking out for the quickest and easiest way to raise the chickens and make a profit.
