Joe has scheduled a meeting with his management team for next week to talk about the Peninsula Hotel chain contract. He hopes that he will be able to work with them to draft a contract favorable to Peninsula that will ensure its renewal for another year. He is reasonably sure that the contract renewal will ensure his continued success and employment with UWEAR.

On his way out of the office today, Joe receives a call from Bill.

Bill: “Joe, how are you doing? Got any great plans for the weekend?”
Joe: “No, my wife and I are just planning on hanging out at home and relaxing. How about you?”
Bill: “My family and I are planning a short trip on the yacht. We haven’t been out in a while, and the weather looks perfect. Maybe you and your wife could join us? We haven’t seen you guys in quite a while, and it will be good to catch up.”

Joe is relieved to get the invitation from Bill because their relationship has been strained lately because of the contract negotiations.

Joe must decide how he will answer Bill’s invitation to join him and his family on their yacht. Complete the following in a paper of 500–700 words, excluding cover and reference pages. 

Part I:

Address the following:

• Apply the rational choice model to arrive at your recommendation for Joe regarding his response to the invitation to spend the weekend on Bill’s yacht.  
• In what ways do you agree or disagree with the result of applying the rational choice model?

Part II:

• What ethical theory supports the response to this invitation that you recommend to Joe?  
• Why would you use this theory?   
• What is an alternative recommendation, applying a different ethical theory?   
• Compare and contrast your recommendation with the alternative.

Unit:  Leading with Values 400 words

Theresa and Mike want to create a merged company that is defined by a culture of integrity, thus aiding employees in making ethical decisions, such as in Joe’s ethical dilemma. They will begin by understanding the methods of embedding ethical decision making and behaviors into the culture, including their responsibilities as leaders. You, the consultant, are asked to provide recommendations and guidance to help them shape the culture they intend. This discussion is about values, a culture of integrity, and the role of leaders in creating and maintaining it.

Materials in INTD670 CTU Library Guide, intellipath, and the M.U.S.E. will help you prepare for this discussion.

Answer the following:

• Identify the key initiatives that are required to build a values-driven culture that is defined by integrity.   
  • Discuss the development of values, including what ethical theories underpin organizational values.  
  • Discuss specific decision-making processes that lead to ethical decision making. Include any insights from your professional experience.   
  • What programs or processes help achieve a values-driven culture of integrity? 
• Identify the key behaviors required of Theresa and Mike to embed the desired culture.  
  • What is their role in leading the initiatives?   
  • What actions are important to communicate and establish alignment across the merged organization?

Unit 2 – Individual Project 

 Unit:  National Business Environments 1000 words

You want to launch a business internationally, and you need to choose 3 countries—1 in the Middle East, 1 in Asia, and 1 in Latin America.

• What are some of the components of these cultures that you need to understand from a business standpoint?
• How are they different in each country? Specifically, what considerations will be necessary to facilitate collaboration across these cultures? Identify supervisory skills appropriate to respond to your considerations.
• Can you have a U.S. management style in these countries? In support of your answer, show how various issues would influence the success of multicultural teamwork.
• How are their economic systems classified? Explain why they are classified as such.
• After studying these countries, explain whether you should or should not move forward with your business plan.

Unit 3 – Discussion Board 

 Unit:  International Trade and Investment  400 words

Dispute settlement is the focus of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the way that the organization keeps the global economy stable.

• What is the WTO, and what is its history?
• What are the benefits of being a member of the WTO?
• What are the disadvantages?
• How does it settle disputes?

Choose a recent dispute between 2 countries, and discuss it with your peers. Include the following:

• Summary of what happened
• How it was resolved
• Role played by the WTO
• Do you agree with the resolution?
