Applying Portfolio Assessment Guidelines

Portfolios are becoming more and more popular as a means of assessing students’ work, and there are seven key guidelines covered in our textbook regarding their use. Please review pages 235-237 in Chapter Nine to familiarize yourself with the seven main guidelines for using portfolio assessment.

Next, pick a grade level and a subject area that you are “teaching” to use for the discussion (for example, 10^th grade art). The grade level can be preschool all the way up to college, and the subject area could be anything from computers to P.E.

Now, personalize each of the seven guidelines to your specific grade/subject. For instance, if you were teaching 12^th grade economics, how would you personally apply each one of the seven guidelines to your class’s portfolio process? The specific grade/subject matters more in some steps than others, but I still expect your personal take on each one of the seven steps.
