Discussion: Obesity: A Global Health Concern

Obesity is a continuing challenge for citizens and health care providers in the United States, as you likely know. Obesity can lead to numerous chronic health problems, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Childhood diabetes is also increasing at a disconcerting rate, which will lead to an increased health care burden within a few short years. Current estimates set the cost of obesity on the U.S. health care system at $147–$210 billion per year (The State of Obesity, 2016). Think about this week’s media as you take a moment to consider obesity as a burgeoning global challenge.

To prepare for this Discussion:

· Compare rates of obesity in the United States to other developed and also developing countries. Think about how health issues resulting from obesity compare as well.

· Reflect on health promotion and prevention strategies that nurses can implement.

· Contemplate the ethical, cultural, economic, political, and environmental issues a nurse should consider when developing a primary obesity health prevention strategy.

INSTRUCTIIONS FOR DISCUSSION

-Post an obesity health promotion and prevention strategy a nurse could implement for a specific cultural group in the United States.

-Then, modify your message for use in one other country, being sensitive to the cultural nuances of the country you select.

-Describe why you chose to take the approach you did in your strategies and explain any challenges you anticipate a nurse may encounter when trying to implement these strategies.

-Support your response with references from the professional nursing literature.

Note Initial Post: A 3-paragraph (at least 350 words) response. Be sure to use evidence from the readings and include in-text citations. Utilize essay-level writing practice and skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Avoid quotes; paraphrase to incorporate evidence into your own writing. A reference list is required. Use the most current evidence (usually ≤ 5 years old).

Example Project

Follow the instructions on page 286 of your textbook, and complete the example project which is at the bottom of the page. Create your own example for a project. Follow the instructions, and submit a no less than four-page Word document answering the questions for the project.

Example Project

Create a risk register for your example project. Categorize each risk, list potential causes, and list potential responses for each cause, as shown in Exhibit 10.9.

Describe what each project success measure (from Exhibit 10.1) looks like on your example project. Identify at least three risks to each success measure, determine which are major risks, and for each major risk develop one or more contingency plans. Identify whether the contingency plan is an avoidance plan (reducing the probability of the risk event), a mitigation plan (reducing the impact of the event), or both. Facilitate a discussion with the sponsor and other key stakeholders of your project.

Have them determine the relative importance of their priorities and document them, as shown in Exhibit 10.2. Perform a risk review for your example project. Use at least three types of review, as shown in Exhibit 10.8. Which of these types gave you the most useful information? Why?

Discussion

The purpose of this visual is to inform people, plastic pollution could be harming us if we eat fish. Since it’s stated that studies show fish off the west coast ingest over 12,000 tons of plastic a year (Surfrider, 2011), this could affect those who eat fish. The visual shows what appears to be sushi wrapped in plastic. The plastic that the sushi is wrapped in has a very thick and wet look and the center of the sushi is stuffed with plastic also. The plastic resembles the plastic bags that we get from grocery shopping because of the wording you can see on the plastic. The sushi does not have a very appetizing look, even with the chopsticks that are laying along side of it. The sushi has a blue center which draws your attention to the words in blue print. The blue wording is in all caps and is also bolded. The bolded text in caps gives viewers an immediate alert. The text brings attention to the eye as it forces you to focus on the blue centered sushi as well. The smaller print below provides details about the image and gives more of a clear understanding of why the sushi is wrapped in plastic. The text also reference a website that’s stated to help turn the tide on plastic pollution.

There are many effective elements considering the Rhetorical situation. To inform was the purpose of the visual, the visual was effective in doing so by first catching the viewers eye by text which went along so well with the visual because it included just enough information to inform you of the what and why. The wording “What goes in the ocean goes in you”, can cause one to pause and think about what does the ocean have to do with me and what goes into it. The message was made clear with a brief explanation of what studies have found. I felt as though the visual elements were presented well. The most effective aspect of the visual was the image itself, the sushi which is fish being wrapped in plastic was a great way to describe plastic pollution and how it can affects us.

The Rogerian model could best be supported with this visual because the issue at hand could have more than one perspective. The Rogerian model allows for an argument to be led from problem to solution, and the visual provided us with the problem of plastic pollution and then it provided us with a solution which was how to turn the tide on plastic pollution by providing a website to visit. What goes in the ocean goes in you would not pose a clear statement from a viewer’s standpoint. However, the visual and information provided presented a problem and a solution to help piece together an understanding of this visual making it very effective.

Discuss The Vulnerabilities Along The Chain-Of-Custody Of Person’s Vote

You have been hired as a CYBER security analyst to assess the vulnerabilities of the electronic voting machines for the city of Metropolis. Some of the voting machines are connected directly to the Internet, while the majority of them are not. However, some may have WI-FI and/or BLUETOOTH capability. All have some form of removable data devices.

An electronic voting machine is simply just another Internet-of-Things endpoint that requires the same diligence in securing it as would any other network endpoint node.

Discuss the vulnerabilities along the chain-of-custody of person’s vote, from button press, to off site data storage.

Management

Read the Point/Counterpoint on page 534 of your text:
Organizations Should Strive to Create a Positive Organizational Culture

Should organizations do all they can to establish a positive culture, because it works, or is building positive culture manipulative?

Your assignment is to write an 8 page paper arguing both points and ending with the role of management in the establishment of the organizational culture, incorporating the four functions of management (as described in chapter 1 of your textbook) into this portion of the discussion.

• The first section should argue that an organization should do all they can to establish a positive culture.
• The next section should argue that building a positive culture is manipulative.
• This section should discuss the role of management in creating an organization’s culture. Incorporate the four functions of management into this section of your paper. Additionally, although global managers perform the same basic functions as domestic managers (planning, organizing, leading, controlling), in what ways might they need to adjust for more variables and environments when operating in a foreign market (e.g., planning to export; planning stages of different cultures; controlling language barriers or differing legal requirements)

I do not want a title page. Please just include your name, email address, and date in the top left-hand corner of the first page only. Papers should be double-spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman with 1” margins on all four sides.

Supporting documentation is required: A minimum of 6 peer-reviewed references must be cited within the paper – two peer-reviewed references for each of the three sections listed above. The peer-reviewed references should be cited within the paper using APA format for the citations within the paper and on the reference page. You may provide as many additional references as you like, as long as you meet the minimum number listed above. Again, the paper should be 8 pages in length. The reference page will count as page number 9.

Assessing Musculoskeletal Pain

A 15-year-old male reports dull pain in both knees. Sometimes one or both knees click, and the patient describes a catching sensation under the patella. In determining the causes of the knee pain, what additional history do you need? What categories can you use to differentiate knee pain? What are your specific differential diagnoses for knee pain? What physical examination will you perform? What anatomic structures are you assessing as part of the physical examination? What special maneuvers will you perform?

With regard to the case study you were assigned:

  • Consider what history would be necessary to collect from the patient in the case study you were assigned.
  • Consider what physical exams and diagnostic tests would be appropriate to gather more information about the patient’s condition. How would the results be used to make a diagnosis?
  • Identify at least five possible conditions that may be considered in a differential diagnosis for the patient.

Note: Before you submit your initial post, replace the subject line (“Discussion – Week 8”) with “Review of Case Study ___.” Fill in the blank with the number of the case study you were assigned.

Post an episodic/focused note about the patient in the case study to which you were assigned using the episodic/focused note template provided in the Week 5 resources. Provide evidence from the literature to support diagnostic tests that would be appropriate for each case. List five different possible conditions for the patient’s differential diagnosis and justify why you selected each.

Nursing

You have to write an answer based on this writing, a minimum of 200 words. You need to add references and quotes, do not use the same references that appear in the writing.

The Greeks are an ethnic group that was native mainly to Greece and other regions around the Mediterranean Sea. The Hindu is one of the world’s oldest religions and has had various healthcare concepts and beliefs. Medicine has been critical in Ancient Greece. They had high cultural priorities placed upon healthy lifestyles. Doctors learned on the ideas they had written, taught, and distributed. From some of these practices, various cultures embraced the practices and developed different medicines for modern challenges.

Cuban heritage has adopted some strategies and developed alternative medicines. Both Greek and Hinduism have had a significant influence on the Cuban heritage on healthcare beliefs. The two cultures have had a culture where they have based their diet on vegetables, fruit, cereals, and non-meet foods. In both cultures, meat consumption has been shallow, and the consequences of the tread are yet to be established. However, they have based the belief that what a person consumes has a high impact on the individual’s health (López Puig et al, 2019). To an extent, the Greek and Hindu Heritage have been retained and modified by the Cuban heritage to form the conventional medicine we have today.

The ancient Greeks are broadly perceived as the creators of western medicine for more than 2000 years ago. However, since then, they have been more understandings of the human body and discoveries on how well to treat the human body. Yet, they have had relevant topics that they have passed on to the Cuban doctors as they are crucial and of great importance in shaping the current healthcare. In addition, the Hindu and Greek have had healthful practices that differ depending on the person’s principles and customs.

Drugs were a start point of ancient medicine. Both Hindu and Greek created the perception and laid out the facts on the importance of diet in an individual’s whole way of life.  It includes nourishment, drink, workout, excrement, and nap. They influenced the Cubans on learning and using these facts in the course of treatment of a patient.  To them, health was perceived as an equilibrium of different fluids in the body. They influenced the Cubans by focusing on the patient’s body as an equilibrium of liquids in their body and the body responding to the environment(Allison, 2018). The Cuban doctors learned to use the Greek-style holistic approach to the diseases related to obesity and mental health as they are known to consume increasing amounts of the doctor’s time.

Greek and Hindu heritage also influenced the Cuban heritage that medicine requires trust. The doctor needs to ensure that his or her image is right to gain the patients’ confidence.  The dressing of a doctor has an impact on the patients’ trust. The doctors were tasked with the responsibility to understand what their patients were thinking and help them trust you. By doing so, the patients can take their remedies trust, which is highly resourceful in the patients’ wellness.

They were more educated than influenced on how medicine goes in and out of fashion based on ancient Greek beliefs. Medicine is not a linear process that moves steadily, and it has some ups and downs. Besides, some discoveries are always hard to catch on. The Cuban heritage had to learn from the Greek and Hindu that not all medical questions have answers or solutions just yet. The discovery of the treatment is not an easy process either. The Ancient Greeks thought they had all the answers but later realized that they were too naïve to believe that all they knew is right. From that, the Cubans have learned about customizing medicine to each person. It is a strategy highly adopted in healthcare today.  Especially with the current COVID-19 pandemic, they have embraced the customized approach to their patients worldwide due to a lack of approved vaccination or treatment.

The Greek and Hindu heritage influenced the Cuban culture not to accept anything without challenging it. It encourages them to take time over a discovery. They take the opportunity to learn its application on the human body. They learned the scientists and researchers need to rethink when they find new evidence along with the research. From the Greeks, the Cuban heritage learned that medicine needs to make sense to its audience (Purnell & Fenkl, 2019). From it, they learned to accept results and not take a search for a pill for every ill.

The Greek and Hindu heritage has influenced the Cuban culture on the healthcare beliefs through beliefs and practices where they embraced ideas and modified them to form the modern solution to the current illnesses we experience today.  The Greeks and the Hindus have always had a culture of basing their diets on vegetables, fruits, cereals, and other non-meat foods.  Both Greeks and Hindus consume meat at low levels. However, it believed that these foods have a positive impact on the human body leading to improved healthcare.
