Format of the Paper and Helpful Tips

Address purpose of paper, main themes in literature, the applied research project/ evidence-based social program, important conclusions, and directions for future work.

Introduce your general topic and the social problem you plan to address
Describe why this is an important topic/problem to address (provide relevant stats as necessary)
Define relevant terms as necessary.
Specify at least two sub-disciplines of psychology that you have selected to inform your project and why these sub-disciplines, in particular, will be useful
Describe the historical roots of your selected topic as far back in psychology as possible (be sure to identify relevant psychological schools of thought, theorists, and theories)
Describe the overall purpose of your research paper (in doing so, specify whether you plan to propose an evidence-based social program or an applied research project)
Describe the main goals of your evidence-based social program or applied research project
Provide a road map for what will be included in the rest of the paper.
Sub-Discipline A
Review relevant literature in sub-discipline A (use a thematic structure, rather than an article-by-article structure).
Define relevant terms (where appropriate).
Critique literature in this section (as you are discussing it).
Summarize main themes in this section.
Sub-Discipline B (follow this by a Sub-Discipline C section, as necessary)

Applied Research Project/Evidence-Based Social Program Proposal
Describe nature/purpose of the program/project
Provide thorough and clear description of program/project details (e.g., participants, materials, design, training, funding)
Cite supporting evidence for the program/project
Identify ethical issues and specify how they will be addressed
Describe proposed outcomes (social program) or expected results (applied project) & discuss directly how these outcomes/results will be used to address your social problem
Identify strengths and limitations of your program/project
Discussion Section
Recap your general topic and the social problem you addressed (including the importance of addressing this topic/social problem).
Briefly recap the historical roots of your topic in the field of psychology.
Review the major themes drawn from your literature review of two (or three) sub-disciplines of psychology (cite literature here and clearly provide evidenced-based justification for your conclusions).
Identify inconsistencies and gaps in the literature on your topic and describe how your proposed applied research project/evidence-based social program addressed them.
Discuss the strengths and limitations of your applied project/program. In terms of strengths, describe what contribution your project/program has made to the original social problem, the discipline of Psychology and to people in general. Be sure to address what makes your project/proposal unique.
Identify next steps for researchers in your topic area (next steps for future research).
